Does PSS Oppose the homeless shelter?

Peekskill Safe & Strong does not oppose the homeless shelter, in fact we have offered to help find a solution that is in the best interest of everyone.

What will happen with people who are turned away from the shelter

so far there is no solid answer as to what happens with unwanted parties that have been removed from the facility. Currently they are just escorted to the street and the door is locked behind then. Recently chhop has stated they getting a shuttle van to remove them from the neighborhood but we are not sure if that is legal.

Who will make the final say? Is it the County? The City?

The city has the final say. The zoning text amendment is the first step, voted upon by the common council. Second step is special use permit that will also be voted on by common council. Planning will need to approve the building and variance will need to be approved.

It's a done deal right?

Saying it's a done deal is a speculation given the connections to city hall. This is going to be a long public process with 4 different steps they have to go through. Nothing is done yet.

But isn't the shelter for Peekskill residents

In 2017 CHHOP requested to remove the Peekskill residency requirement from the special use permit.
